Breakfast and Brunch in Israel - an overview
(Hebrew) Aruchat boker - meaning morning meal
Western style breakfasts are common in Israel but bacon will only be found in non-kosher establishments. The Kibbutz breakfast is distinctive in its use of food produced by the co-operative. Workers and guests would probably choose from yoghurt, herring, cucumbers, tomatoes and other fresh fruit and vegetables of the season.
An Israeli breakfast typically consists of nothing more than some coffee (usually instant) and some small cookies or slices of cake. A fuller breakfast might include fried or hard-boiled eggs, toast, or Israeli salad: diced cucumber and tomato with dressed with olive oil and vinegar or lemon juice.

Have you had breakfast here? - then tell us about it..
First popular breakfast on weekend is Humus with Pita bread, olive
oil, onion and tea with mint or cardamom, or coffee with cardamom. That one you could find in Jaffa, Jerusalem and many more.
Second is Jahnun (a sort of backed bread from Yemen) with spicy tomato
sauce and baked egg. It is popular in Tel Aviv, but you could have it
everywhere.
Third is coffee or Barad (tasty ice coffee) with some salad or cookies.
Anyway, it starts not for 11, and usually it is time spend with friends
and/or family. Ann 07/02/07
